ECE Brussels welcomed in the Nets4Dem community - The European Network for Democratic Innovation and Participation
The European Centre of Excellence (ECE Brussels) is pleased to announce its official membership in Nets4Dem - the European Network for Democratic Innovation and Participation. As of 11 July 2025, ECE Brussels has joined this growing collaborative platform dedicated to strengthening democracy across Europe and beyond through innovation, knowledge exchange, and multi-stakeholder action.
Nets4Dem brings together policymakers, researchers, civil society organisations, and practitioners to address key democratic challenges through working groups, policy retreats, capacity-building programmes, and joint advocacy.
“ECE Brussels is proud to become part of Nets4Dem. This platform represents an important opportunity to contribute our expertise in strategic communication, digital transformation, and civic engagement to a wider European effort for democratic renewal,” said Biljana Janevska, Member of the Executive Board of ECE Brussels.
Contributions of the European Centre of Excellence
ECE Brussels will actively participate in the Nets4Dem’s Democracy and Technology Working Group, focusing on the intersection of democratic governance, digital tools, and especially Artificial Inteligence (AI). The working group addresses pressing issues such as technological transparency, algorithmic accountability, and inclusive digital policymaking.
In addition, ECE Brussels has expressed interest in contributing to Nets4Dem’s ongoing work on the EU Civil Society Strategy, a key policy initiative expected to be adopted by the end of 2025. Nets4Dem will coordinate input from members into this strategy through a dedicated EU Policy Working Group.
Additionally, as an organisation committed to further enhancing cooperation between EU institutions and candidate countries, ECE Brussels will use this new membership to bring the perspectives of youth, civil society, and local actors from the Western Balkans and beyond into EU policy dialogues.
Next steps
The European Centre of Excellence (ECE Brussels) will participate in upcoming onboarding and working group meetings, including the next general assembly of Nets4Dem, scheduled for October 2025 in Brussels. The General Assembly will provide space to help shape strategic priorities for the network and deepen collaborations among members.
